Any time you use your brains to beat something, rather than just hacking on it with all the skill of a chicken trained to peck the spacebar, you're "cheating" or using an "exploit". If you can defeat with ease what is "a very difficult boss" when you just hack on it stupidly, it's obviously an exploit. If it's very difficult to defeat stupidly, it's obviously not meant to be easy for anyone, so anyone who finds an easy way to do it is a cheater.

If anyone has played Devil May Cry on the ps2 (and I'm sure many other fine action games) they'd see this as a serious case of lazy design on boss AI.

The beautiful thing about DMC's bosses (some of them, not all of them), is that they are random enough to make you pay attention, but they have enough "patternness" to make coming up with strategies useful. Also they often have several "stages" of different behaviours, so that you need to use different sets of strategies at different times. And executing your strategy requires some timing, skill and concentration, it's not just a matter of knowing what to do.

I dont know how it's done - but I've seen it in games before and it's always magic when you encounter it.

(DMC3, as a counter example, is a great game but sadly the bosses are mostly pretty boring and stupid)

If GW had clever bosses on par with the best, then it still would have been possible to post about how to "outsmart" the boss - but the document would be a big multipart one describing the exact makeup of your team, which skills to use when, what to observe in order to give you clues about what the boss will do next, and how to respond, etc. Not just "grab the egg and dodge whilst everyone else smacks Glint around." Granted, it's a lot better than Dungeon Siege's dragon boss... "Stand out of range of its fire attacks and snipe it to death with the bomb spell"

Hehehe, I always thought holding the quest item to concentrate enemy fire was kinda cheap, but legitimate. And I think in one of the interviews, they did say they wanted to let people dodge projectiles in real-time, I do it all the time to rangers who don't have faster-arrow buffs.

Big, green, slow, high-arching poison arrow :P Reminds me of mortars in Tribes.
